About Predicates, Part 1

Although we're not aware of it, the words and phrases we use indicate the representational system we're using at any one time. When someone declares they 'can see the light at the end of the tunnel', you know they're processing visually. When your boss 'likes the sound' of your idea, it's an auditory modality in operation. And when your friend wants you to 'grasp the nettle', you know they're thinking kinaesthetically.

If you listen carefully to someone speaking for even a short while you'll notice a pattern in the kinds of words and phrases they choose that reflects either their primary system or the particular context they're involved with.
